Prince's Island Pics

What a beautiful place! Prince's island is my favorite place that i've seen so far in Istanbul. No horns, no cars, no ppl yelling..except for the guy that yells out of the mosque everyday. Scenery was beautiful, a bit too smelly at times (horses), but I got to enjoy 2 of my 3 favorite things in Turkey: 1. green apples and 2. Cin (the wonderful cookie that I discovered from Teuta! That was a great day :-)

thanks Burcu for taking us. So nice to get out of the busy city and get in touch with my not-having-to-dodge-cars side! :-)

Woman Abuse

I found some interesting facts and this photo from an article published by the Turkish Daily.

Physical abuse of women has been and continues to be problematic in Turkey. 1/3 of the female population is affected according to a survey called Violence against Women in Turkey, released yesterday. Contrary to belief, no data supports that women are abused more in the East rather than West. Turkish women from the easternmost villages to Istanbul, more conservative to more posh, are expressing similar attitudes: No man has the right to raise his hand against his wife. 9 out of 10 women said there is no such thing as legitimate violence against women.

However, earn more, get beaten more

The survey reached is that the risk of being physically abused is at least doubled if the woman earns more than the man. Two out of every three women earning more than the man gets beaten. (Statistics can found here)
